Our home is a beautiful white stone Italian-style Villa that is approximately 15 years old consisting of over 3,000 sqft with three bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, a tower room, and a stunning great room (20’ x 34’) with 25’ceilngs and granite countertops. Our home has a beautiful flow through its design and is excellent for entertaining guests and family gatherings.
The house got constructed of concrete-filled Styrofoam blocks (ICF Construction) on all exterior walls, thus giving the builder and original owners the feeling that they could maintain heating and cooling efficiency. The house originally had two air conditioning and heat units installed, with a 2.5-ton unit and a 2-ton unit on separate ends of the house.
The great room is situated in the middle of the home between the two air conditing units and gets supplied by a total of three vents (6X12), one from the 2-ton and two from the 2.5-ton unit.
The previous HVAC contractor felt that the construction technique would only require minimal BTUs to air condition the space. But, the great room would only cool to 86 degrees in the middle of the afternoon in July, causing a big problem for the homeowner.
Design Challenge
The homeowner needed to heat and cool the great room replacing both existing air conditioning units.
Solution
After studying the Fujitsu mini split system capabilities, it offered us the solution to get our great room air conditioned and heated efficiently. We chose two wall-mounted indoor units in the great room.
Results
After the final installation of the Fujitsu mini split system, which was no small feat due to the home’s construction, the Fujitsu wall units satisfied both heating and air conditioning issues.
We are thrilled to have the problem solved so we can begin to entertain our friends and family this holiday season.
