Older coastal homes are beautiful—but when it comes to heating and cooling, they often come with challenges. Narrow chases, multiple floors, uneven temperatures, and limited duct space can make traditional HVAC systems impractical or inefficient.
That’s exactly what we addressed with this recent two–single-zone Fujitsu heat pump installation at a home in York, Maine.
The Challenge: Comfort Without Compromise
This home needed efficient, quiet comfort on multiple floors:
- A dining and living area that required direct, responsive heating and cooling
- Three second-floor bedrooms that needed even temperatures without bulky wall units in every room
- Clean exterior aesthetics that wouldn’t detract from the home’s character
Instead of forcing a one-size-fits-all solution, we designed a dual-system approach—each system tailored to how the space is actually used.
The Solution: Two Single-Zone Systems, Purpose-Built

🌀 System 1: Wall-Mounted Comfort for the Main Living Space
For the dining and living area, we installed:
- Fujitsu 18,000 BTU high-efficiency outdoor unit
- 18,000 BTU wall-mounted indoor unit, perfectly positioned for even air distribution
This setup delivers fast response, whisper-quiet operation, and precise temperature control—ideal for shared living spaces where comfort is noticed immediately.
🌀 System 2: Discreet Ducted Comfort for Bedrooms
For the second floor, we took a different approach:
- 18,000 BTU Fujitsu outdoor unit
- Medium-static ducted indoor unit, concealed in the attic
- Short duct runs serve three bedrooms.
- A central hallway return, keeping airflow balanced and unobtrusive
The result? Clean bedroom walls, consistent temperatures, and no visible equipment—just quiet, efficient comfort where it matters most.
Installation Details That Matter
At Superior Mini Splits, details aren’t optional—they’re the difference between a system that just works and one that works beautifully for decades.
This project included:

- Paintable line-hide covers for a clean exterior finish.
- Proper condensate drainage and electrical interconnects.
- Full system evacuation, pressure testing, and precision charging
- Final operational testing to ensure peak performance
- Installation is fully compliant with local building and electrical codes.
